Interface

With a shiny new PC and display, I completed the upgrade with a new keyboard and mouse. I still have the old PC so that stays paired with my wired Logitech keyboard (with rubbed-off A and W keys thanks to 3 years of FPS shooters) and MX 518 Optical Gaming mouse. For the new system, I wanted a wireless setup for a potential media center setup so I splashed out again and went for a Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard and Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser mouse:

Both these peripherals took a bit of getting used to: the dinovo is flatter with lower keys than a regular keyboard, and the mouse is heavier than I was used to, but its microgear scroll wheel is a revelation: I don’t know how I got by without it before.

Dell Ultrasharp

Also upgraded the monitor from a Benq to one of these: a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24″ Widescreen LCD Monitor:

Despite the size, I was a bit underwhelmed at first: although costing more that twice as much, the Dell didn’t seem that much better than the Benq. A couple of weeks of usage though (and a bit of calibrating) and I love it – it’s a great looking panel and games like Bioshock and Crysis look fantastic.

PC Upgrade

I upgraded my main PC for the first time in just over two years. I built the last one myself (based on the Alienware Area 51 from ’03), but this time I decided to let the experts do it for me: went for a semi-custom build from Overclockers UK. I’d used them before and they didn’t disappoint this time either. Spec I went for is:

Ultima OC 9800GTX+ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz @ QX6950+ 3.00GHz+ 4GB Quad Core DDR2

Here are some pics:

I spent a bit extra to get the Coolermaster RC-1000 case – it’s quite a beast:

Also I finally took the Vista plunge (Home Premium) – and I haven’t had a single problem with it so far.
