My Top 10 Tracks: Bedsitland

Bedsitland is a monthly London electro clubnight that recently celebrated its 2nd birthday. Mixing the best electronic and synthpop tunes from the late 70s to today, Bedsitland is disco, party, club night and gig all rolled into one. Co-founder DJ Electric Dream and guests host the night, featuring live performances from many of the hottest up-and-coming synth bands. I asked Electric Dream for her Top 10 favourite tracks. She decided to make a list of her favourite electro/synth choons from the last few years instead, “in the hope that those into the likes of The Human League, Ultravox, Depeche Mode etc. might take a listen and discover something new.” Check out her selection below!

.

1. IAMX — The Great Shipwreck of Life

I fell in love with IAMX when I fist heard Spit it Out in a club and have been obsessed ever since. Chris Corner is a genius and they are electrifying live! This song  (from their latest album) was the definite stand out track when I fist listened to it and has now become my favourite.

2. The Modern — Jane Falls Down

I’ve been a fan (ahem, stalker) of The Modern since they began and it took me a long time to decide on which track by them to include, but I chose this as it’s a stomping piece of pop magic and great for dancing too!

3. Tenek — I Don’t Cry For You

Tracy aka Electric Dream

This song is probably my favourite from their début album Stateless. It’s one of the best début albums I’ve heard and judging by what I’ve heard from their follow up (On The Wire, to be released in September), that’s gonna be even better!!!

4. Hurts — Wonderful Life

Hurts are my new favourite band. My new obsession. This was the first song I heard by them, a long time ago on MySpace before they were signed and went all elusive. This is a song that grabs onto every emotion inside me, no matter how many times I listen to it.

5. Crystal Castles — Not in Love

I’ve never been a fan of Crystal Castles and even saw them supporting The Cure but didn’t really like them. But there’s something about this track from their latest album that sends shivers up my spine. A beautiful song!

6. Ashbury Heights — Die By Numbers

Resident DJ Electrofish & friend

The gothier side is coming out of me here. Ashbury Heights’ debut album is another one that doesn’t have a dud song it it. This song is taken from the EP recorded not long before Yasmine left the band. I’ve still to check out the new stuff with the new singer – hopefully it’s just as good!

7. Mesh — Open Up The Ground

Mesh are one of those bands that seem to have been around forever but still to this day keep coming up with synthpop anthems – and this is one of them! An absolute floor-filler, this song always has everyone waving their arms in the air!

8. Future Perfect — Queen of the Dancefloor

I loved this band (especially this song) as soon as I heard them, but when I saw them live I was blown away! The music is just perfect and Becky’s vocals are really strong. I think that was only their 2nd or 3rd gig as well, they really were amazing!

9. Vile Electrodes — Play With Fire (listen on Soundcloud)

This new(ish) band from London/Hastings/Brighton have built up quite a following already and when you see them live you’ll understand why! Another band who play to perfection, and Jane’s vocals are outstanding. Definitely a band to look out for!

10. Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey — (Together in) Electric Dreams

OK ok ok….I know this is an 80s track but I couldn’t resist! This is my all time favourite song, has been from the first day I ever heard it and will be till the day I die. This song is the reason I am who I am today.
