iPhone and iPad Apps for Spotify

As well as the official Spotify Mobile app for iPhone (which was recently updated to enable background listening), a number of other Spotify-related apps are available for Apple mobiles from the App Store and Cydia. Here’s a look at them.

ShareMyPlaylists.com for iPhone lets you discover music through their impressive archive of playlists. On starting, the main tab lists the 10 featured playlists from the site, with large playlist cover art for each one. You can swipe through the playlists then tap the cover art for more detail or click the Play button to jump directly to Spotify and start listening.

The Latest tab lists all the recent playlists added to the site, while the Genre tab lets you browse any of SMP’s 24 genres. Search gives you the option to search by artist, track name, and playlist title.

Spotifinder 2

Spotifinder is a remote control for Spotify on the Mac. It can control Spotify, perform searches and display the currently playing track. To use, first download and install the server to your Mac. Switch on your AirPort then enable access for assistive devices (under Universal Access in System Preferences). You can then use Spotifinder on your iPhone to control Spotify remotely.

Music Controls

Music Controls is an iPhone app that lets you run and control Spotify for iPhone in the background, in other words you can multitask. It also supports a host of other music apps, such as imeem, Last.fm, Rhapsody and Orb. Music Controls is available on Cydia and includes a 5-day fully-functional free trial. Note it requires a jailbroken iPhone.

Remoteless

Winner of the Best Remote Control category in the Spotties awards 2010, Remoteless is a feature-rich Spotify remote for iPhone or iPod touch that controls Spotify on Windows (the Mac version is coming soon). Features include standard transport controls (start/stop, next song, volume), search & browse, shuffle & repeat, start playlist from remote, album art, favourites, and integration with Facebook and Twitter.

Not a native iPhone/iPad app, but great too and works very well in the Safari browser: m.spotibot.com

You should really look at the new iPhone app MSearch. It gives you great flexibility when searching for tracks in the Spotify catalogue. Been using it since it came out a couple of days ago!

Is anyone aware of remote apps for ipad. I would like to have my ipod conectted to my hi-fi and have the ability to control, search, etc, when relaxin reading with the ipad on the sofa.
