This is the response I got from Spotify early in December last year when i asked them about the sudden lack of update notification(under the subjectline “I miss the Google docs”):
“So do I! We’ve had problems pulling the data from the server past few weeks, we’re working on getting it up and running again and then I’ll hopefully get all the missing updates as well. There are no plans to stop posting them.”
But now it seems as if they in fact made these changes, that somehow made the previous information-flow impossible to maintain, quite deliberatly..
A little shady if you ask me…

I don’t get it why they don’t use a “date added” tag instead of the “new” tag. This would solve ALL problems and would be the most flexible solution for all the Spotify community sites.

There is a search API that exists and all the albums tagged as new (tag:new that you talked about in your blog article) can be returned as an XML file using the following URL…
http://ws.spotify.com/search/1/album?q=tag:new

Someone should be able to write some code to parse the XML file and convert it to a spreadsheet, or use the data directly in their own application.

Spotify’s Metadata API which currently includes Search and Lookup APIs is documented at Spotify’s developer website here…

Yeah this is really annoying. The spreadsheet wasn’t perfect but at least it was something.

I don’t do the label search thing but instead I have a playlist with one song by each artist I know is going to release a new album this year, provided that this artist is on a label that Spotify works with. This way I just have to click on the artists names to see if their latest release has been added.
