The Invisible Festival – 8th and 9th August

The Invisible Festival is a virtual festival in aid of Cancer Research UK that uses Spotify playlists to provide the music. It’s “the world’s only 100% mud free, crowd-free, rain-free, tout-free, queue-free, free-free virtual festival” and is happening over the weekend of 8th and 9th August 2009.

A whole host of artists, musicians, and celebrities are booked to provide their specially-selected playlists throughout the weekend. The line-up includes:

  • A Life in Film
  • Ashley Walters from So Solid Crew
  • Beverley Knight
  • Defend Moscow
  • Golden Hat Opera
  • Heloise and the Savoir faire
  • InvisiBill
  • ist
  • Jaime Gilder
  • Javier Weyler (Stereophonics)
  • Jon McClure (Reverend and the Makers)
  • Pete Greenwood (Starsailor)
  • Push Button DJ
  • Richard Taylor
  • Robert Florence
  • Sandi Thom
  • The Go! Team
  • The Invisible
  • The Pipettes
  • Willard Grant Conspiracy
  • DJ Elias from Are You Spotified
  • Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly)
  • Pete Greenwood (Starsailor)
  • Yvette Fielding (Most Hunted)

The festival has different tents around the site which each host an artist’s playlist. You can choose which tent to (virtually) stand in and get down to. The guest DJ changes every hour or so, so there should always be something for everyone. Updates will be posted on The Invisible Festival website, so you’ll always know who’s playing where.

To take part, the idea is that you organise or attend an Invisible Festival at your house with some friends. If you have fun and like what you hear, be kind and make a donation to Cancer Research UK.

Mark and the other festival organisers have done a fantastic job so far, and as the first virtual Spotify festival this will be the one to remember. There’s all sorts of goodies on their slick and cool website, including some great photos of indoor festival setups (tents in the living room!), free wallpapers, wristbands, a merchandise store, and even sections on what to wear to the festival and what to eat!
